Section 16 · Effective 1 September 2026
Data Retention & Deletion Policy
Retention periods, deletion requests, backups and legal holds.
16.1 Data Retention Periods
Account and profile data is retained while the account remains active and for a limited period after closure to allow account recovery; transaction records are retained for the period required by Nigerian tax and financial record-keeping laws (generally not less than six years); voting and competition records are retained for the duration needed to resolve disputes or fraud investigations.
16.2 User Requests for Data Deletion
Users may request deletion of their account and associated personal data from the Account & Data Deletion page, from account settings, or through the published contact channels; AMTA will action the request within the timeframe required by the NDPA, subject to the legal exceptions below.
16.3 Data Backup and Recovery
Deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period for disaster-recovery purposes before being permanently purged; backups are not used to restore a deleted account without a fresh request from the user.
16.4 Legal Obligations for Data Retention
Certain data, such as transaction and tax records or data subject to an ongoing legal dispute or law-enforcement request, may be retained beyond a deletion request to the extent required by law.
16.5 Data Deletion Procedures
On expiry of the applicable retention period, or on a valid deletion request, personal data is securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised using industry-standard methods.
